Mango, the next version of Windows Phone 7, will support Skype video calling, attendants at a Microsoft Tech Ed session have heard.
In addition, handsets with the Microsoft mobile OS update will have forward-facing cameras, according to a post on Twitter by technology consultant Paul Spain.
"Nice, they just confirmed at TechEd NZ that #WP7 devices with forward facing cameras are coming with Mango – and Skype will support it," wrote Spain, on his account '@WindowsPhoneNZ'.
A Microsoft spokesman stopped short of confirming the Skype rumours on Friday, but did say that "there is a lot to be excited about and we look forward to sharing more information soon".
The spokesman also confirmed that Microsoft is forging ahead with bringing its own VoIP platform, Lync, to mobile operating systems other than Windows Phone 7.
"We are on track to deliver Lync mobile applications to major mobile platforms by the end of the year and look forward to sharing more information," the spokesman said.
