Wipro buys digital design firm Designit

Wipro is aiming to bolster its design services chops with the acquisition of Denmark-based Designit.

Wipro said Thursday that it has acquired Designit, a digital design firm, in a move that highlights how outsourcing and integration companies are trying to be larger players in corporate transformation efforts.

Terms of the deal weren't disclosed.

For Wipro, Designit gives the company more services to offer as well as strategy and technology assets. Rival Cognizant has been touting its digital transformation wins. Enterprises ranging from Capital One to Pizza Hut are increasingly seeing themselves as digital companies as they make bets on technology and talent.

As a result of the digital transformation run, integrators have been buying design firms. For instance, McKinsey bought Lunar and Accenture acquired Fjord. IBM has also expanded into design services.

Designit specializes in user experience and product design. Wipro will use Designit's expertise to compliment its technology knowhow. The combined companies plan to more effectively target CXOs.

According to Wipro, Designit, based in Denmark, has more than 300 employees around the world.
