WLAN semiconductors to generate $3 bln by 2009

The worldwide WLAN semiconductor forecast continues to look strong and will surge to 487 mln units by 2009 due to a growing number of end-market opportunities, IDC predicts. The worldwide WLAN semiconductor forecast continues to look strong and will surge to 487 mln units by 2009 due to a growing number of end-market opportunities, IDC predicts. New end-market opportunities will materialize in consumer and mobile devices as well as technology advancements such as MIMO, which extend bandwidth and range. IDC forecasts WLAN semiconductor revenue will increase from $1.2 bln in 2004 to $3.0 bln by 2009, representing a 21% compound annual growth rate (CAGR).
