US division likely to be hit hardest...

Worldcom employees are bracing themselves for more bad news today after the telecoms and net company announced it was slashing a further 1,000 jobs. The majority of the vacancies will come from Worldcom's European division, primarily the UK operation. The job cuts will represent around 10 per cent of the company's European workforce. Worldcom cut 1,000 European jobs at the start of 2001, and followed it with 6,000 more in the US in March. The company said the cuts were due to poor performance in the EMEA division.
