World's largest DVR taunts couch potatoes with 50 TV tuners, 125+TB capacity

If you're thinking there's no way the world's largest DVR would be available for the average consumer, you're absolutely right. But that isn't keeping SnapStream from dangling specs and images of it in front of us.

If you're thinking there's no way the world's largest DVR would be available for the average consumer, you're absolutely right. But that isn't keeping SnapStream from dangling specs and images of it in front of us.

The company has assembled a vending machine-sized monstrosity to display at the National Association of Broadcasters show next week. It contains 68 two-terabyte hard drives (the equivalent of 326 Tivo Premiers) that can store programming from 50 TV tuners—sure, they're analog tuners, but it's still pretty impressive. It works out to 96 days of storage per tuner. More amazingly, SnapStream has created a whole search engine around the programming on all those drives. And the whole thing can grab everything through a single coax cable.

How much does it cost? Who will use it? (Maybe the Daily Show or Colbert Report?) There's no word, but you can find plenty of other technical details on SnapStream's blog post.
