Xero inks software integration deal with Shopify

The integration will enable Shopify's online merchants to automatically track their sales and other business financial data using Xero's software.

Cloud accounting software provider Xero has inked a partnership with Shopify, the company announced Monday.

The integration will enable Shopify's online merchants to automatically track their sales and other business financial data using Xero's software.

Previously, Shopify's merchants had to manually transfer data between front-end and back-end systems with Xero. The companies say the process has been trimmed down to a single click.

The partnership is an important step for New Zealand-based Xero. The company already integrates with Shopify competitor Bigcommerce, but it needed to establish a firm link with Shopify to support its US expansion goals.

As for Shopify, the company has existing integrations with Xero's top US rival Intuit, but Xero claims to deliver more than five times the number of third-party integrations compared to Intuit's QuickBooks. Xero also aims to undercut the legacy vendor on price.

Xero said the integration is now available in the US and Canada, with the rollouts in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, expected later this year.
