Yahoo has embarked on a major new datacenter project, the search and Web service provider announced on Thursday.

The datacenter, due to be based in Avenches, Switzerland, will see Yahoo redevelop a manufacturing packaging plant into a major European hub for the company.

Yahoo said that it plans to use a "unique Yahoo design" to use free cooling to keep cooling costs down. Yahoo recently unveiled a "chicken coop" datacenter in New York which used free cooling to cut energy costs.
