Yahoo! made $1.6 million on $17.3 million revenues and said it would spend $94 million to purchase privately held Four11, a service which focuses on e-mail and telephone directories. For the year-ago quarter, Yahoo! had $5.5 million in revenues.

Mark Li, technical director of European operations at Yahoo!, said that a localised version of Four11 is already available at Yahoo! UK.

"The acquisition is an important addition to our personalisation offerings. Now, as well as chat, classifieds and My Yahoo! you can get a Yahoo! free e-mail address," he added.

Li declined to break down UK numbers but said: "We're doing our bit and growing faster than we expected. We've got a much more localised product than any of our competitors."

According to PC Meter, an online marker researcher, Yahoo! notched an average 50 million page views per day in September, up from 38 million in June.
