You don't have to wait for Google to update your Nexus One OTA

As readers here know I am quite happy with my Google Nexus One and have been using multi-touch with the Dolphin browser. On my train commute home I read all over Twitter that Google started rolling out an update for Nexus One owners that was also reported here on ZDNet by Sam and Jason. It took forever for me to get the last update sent over-the-air to my T-Mobile G1 so I immediately started looking for ways to get the update done manually. It didn't take long for me to find that my buddy Phil posted the specific directions to manually update your Nexus One using no hacking or anything. This is a completely legitimate way to update your Nexus One and does not require rooting or anything shady at all.

Both Phil and I did experience the Android guy out of the box image on our devices that required a couple of soft resets, but after that (and a bit of a wait as the colors fed into the Google X) everything started right up and runs perfectly. Right off the bat I can see I now have multi-touch pinch and zoom in the web browser and gallery applications. See you later Dolphin browser and welcome back default browser. I also understand this update may fix the 3G connectivity issues, but that will take me a couple of days of traveling around the area to see if there is any impact here.

It was also great to see this 16MB update install over the top without messing up any of my applications or settings on my Nexus One. I have a ton of apps loaded and have my Nexus One customized and optimized for my liking so this was very nice to see.
