TechnologyOne picks up AU$3m from Queensland council

The deal sees another customer choosing to ditch Oracle's offering instead of upgrading.

TechnologyOne has picked up AU$3 million after signing a deal with Queensland's Toowoomba Regional Council.

The deal will see TechnologyOne provide the local government with its OneCouncil offering, which covers business processes such as financial, payroll, asset management, and regulatory reporting.

Its win is another instance of a customer moving from its existing Oracle implementation to TechnologyOne's. Last month, the company picked up 21 Western Australian agencies, moving their existing Oracle enterprise systems to their software.

"Pulling out our financials, HR and payroll systems, and implementing a new asset management solution was a huge undertaking, and in the process of reviewing this, we realised we needed to fundamentally re-examine how we do business, rather than just updating our software," Toowoomba Regional Council deputy mayor Mike Williams said in a statement.

TechnologyOne will assist in implementing its offering over the next 12 to 18 months. It will first focus on the core suite of products, and later look at introducing mobility functionality and more strategic modules.

The vendor expects that because it can pre-configure its product based on its past experiences with councils, it will take a lot less time to implement — a benefit that the Toowoomba Regional Council intends to capitalise on.

"Because they have worked with 250 councils and documented the best ways of working, we will be borrowing heavily from their business processes and expect to use at least 80 percent of the OneCouncil blueprint," Williams said.
