Amazon brings Cloud Player to iPhone, iPod touch
Amazon's Cloud Player service is probably looking even more attractive to consumers now comparability has been extended to two of the most popular mobile devices around: the iPhone and the iPod touch.
Up until now, Amazon Cloud Player was supported on Android smartphones and tablets, PC and Mac computers, and the device essentially built to promote Cloud Player and its services: the Kindle Fire.
Steve Boom, vice president of Digital Music for Amazon, boasted in a statement that "by bringing Cloud Player to iPhone and iPod touch, we now have the most widely compatible cloud playback solution available."
The app itself is free and available in the Apple App Store now. For reference, all Amazon customers automatically start off with 5 GB of free storage to begin uploading their digital music libraries to Cloud Player. Users can stream or download music stored in Cloud Player to their mobile devices (including these iOS devices) for playing music on-the-go as well as managing playlists.
For a limited time, Amazon offering unlimited space for MP3 and AAC (.m4a) music files at no additional cost to those who purchase any additional storage plan.
The addition of Amazon Cloud Player to more iOS devices definitely steps up the competition for the likes of Spotify and Sony's Music Unlimited, which finally arrived for the iPhone in May.
It could also mark further heated competition in the digital music space overall as consumers are getting more options when it comes to either purchasing music from iTunes or Amazon's MP3 store -- or signing up for music subscription services instead.
