Apple expected to roll out refreshed Macbook Air before July
Rumors about an unlocked iPhone 4in the United States turned out to be true. Could the same be said for the MacBook Air this month?
In all likelihood, it's very possible. Although nothing was announced or mentioned about a new generation of the ultra-thin, Mac OS X-based notebook at WWDC 2011 earlier this month, that doesn't mean we won't be seeing a new computer from Apple this month.
Certainly, the last MacBook Air models did get a formal introduction. But that was after a few years without an upgrades, and Apple unveiled a new display size option. Typically, Apple doesn't introduce its computers at WWDC or its own media events anymore. That goes for the MacBook and MacBook Pro series as well as most iMacs and servers. The only Apple products that routinely garner the spotlight each year are the iPhone and now the iPad (and sometimes iPods).
Additionally, the MacBook Air upgrade rumors have been fairly rampant lately. According to a new report from Taiwan's Economic Daily (via Reuters), "Apple Inc will start selling its latest Macbook Air in late June with 380,000 units as the first shipment."
If that prediction and figure turn out to be true, then the Economic Daily expects that Apple will ship at least 460,000 units of all MacBook Air models combined. Unfortunately, there aren't many leads as to specs and pricing, but 9 to 5 Mac suspects that the new version will include Intel Thunderbolt I/O technology and Sandy Bridge processors.
