Comcast's grand experiment in on demand Internet video---formerly known as TV Everywhere---has gone national. New name: Fancast XFINITY TV.

The cable giant should have stuck with TV Everywhere (statement, Techmeme).

TV Everywhere, err Fancast XFINITY TV, is the cable industry's answer to Internet video services. The general idea is to make your cable subscription portable to the Internet.

Fancast.com is Comcast's online TV site and has 12,000 hours of content for free. In a nutshell, Comcast is laying a subscription service on top of that platform.

The XFINITY site is still in beta, but any Comcast customer with a cable or Internet subscription can give it a whirl.
