Gogo reinvents sky mall idea with holiday promotion
Move over, SkyMall. Gogo, known for bringing the amazing gift (even if you have to pay for it) of Wi-Fi to the friendly skies, is launching a new twist on shopping while flying.
Pencil in "FlyBuy Wednesday," a new program that will give passengers 30 minutes of free access to the Internet to do their holiday shopping on all Gogo enabled aircraft.
Gogo has partnered with many notable online retailers, including Target, Macy’s, Best Buy, Wal-Mart and Amazon. Some of them will also be offering special in-air discounts.
Gogo's in-air holiday store will be available starting Wednesday, November 23 (the day before Thanksgiving) through "the New Year."
For frequent flyers, especially those traveling on business often during the next six weeks, this actually could provide some benefits. For example, you could get your holiday shopping out of the way much easier and earlier while in mid-flight instead of having to scramble on the ground close to the holidays.
However, it would be nice just to have some free Wi-Fi to get other tasks done as well. That's a gift that we all like to receive, and it really does serve as a good promotion to get travelers to buy Wi-Fi during the rest of the year. Seriously, once you try it, you suddenly need Wi-Fi access on every flight.
For the past few years, a few different airlines have offered free Wi-Fi access via Gogo thanks to a partnership with Google. Hopefully we'll be seeing that again this year...
