HP rolls out laptop armada; Voodoo Envy targets MacBook Air

Hewlett-Packard unveiled a new laptop lineup that includes an ultra mobile Voodoo model to compete with the MacBook Air.

The Voodoo Envy is 0.70 inches thin and weighs less than 3.4 pounds and starts at $2,099. Judging from the technical specs, however, the Envy isn't much of a looker relative to the MacBook Air. Among the key features (statement, Techmeme):

• A one-to-one wireless connection between the Envy 133 notebook and an Ethernet connector located on the power supply, allowing users to roam free from the wired connection.
• Multiple gesture touchpad with circular gesture called chiral scroll and pinch options.
• A carbon fibre casing and fused composite glass covering the display provide surprising strength and durability.
• External optical disk drive - an ID-coordinated external eSATA optical drive is included with every unit.
• Professional backlit keyboard..
• Headphone/microphone, HDMI, USB 2.0 (1x) and a shared e-SATA/USB (1x) ports.

There's also a high-end Voodoo laptop called the Omen that will run you at least $7,000, but that's just silly as far as price goes. Needless to say the Omen has the kitchen sink.
