Intel extends gaming tools to mobile developers

Intel's Graphics Performance Analyzers suite for developers includes tools for optimizing the performance of mobile apps and how they consume battery life on mobile devices.

As the 2012 Game Developers Conference kicks off on Monday, Intel is updating its Graphics Performance Analyzers suite of tools offered to developers for gaming, media and entertainment applications.

But the catch this time is that the enhanced performance upgrades are being rolled out not only to PC game developers but also those creating games on mobile platforms.

The additional support seen on Intel GPA 2012 with Ultrabook, smartphone, and tablet functionality for the first time ever includes tools for optimizing the performance of mobile apps and how they consume battery life on mobile devices.

Here's a glance at some of the features included in the refreshed tool set:

  • System Analyzer: Developers can perform optimization experiments to fine-tune performance without changing application codes.
  • Frame Analyzer: Offers visibility of the visual and performance impact of each element in real-time without affecting the application source code
  • Platform Analyzer: Developers can analyze application task performance and the related effects on devices with CPU metrics and graphics workloads.
  • Media Analyzer: Developers can see how effectively an application uses hardware-accelerated video encode and decode in real-time.

Especially intended for apps running on Intel Core and Atom processor-based platforms, developers can also optimize web content for desktop browsers, including Internet Explorer 9, Chrome and Firefox.

Support for Android-based devices will also be rolled out later this year.
