DataViz adds Google Docs support for the iPhone, retakes Office app lead

It just keeps getting better and better for mobile Office documents on the iPhone and as I have mentioned several times Quickoffice and DataViz keep going back and forth as my top iPhone Office application. I just mentioned last month that Quickoffice added support for Google Docs, Dropbox, and Box.net. Even though they still do not have PowerPoint support like DataViz added in December I felt that easier document access was worth Quickoffice taking the lead. DataViz may just have stolen back the lead in iPhone Office applications with their new Documents To Go Premium version 3.1 (iTunes link) that added Google Docs support, support for multiple Exchange and Gmail accounts, and the ability to freeze rows or columns in spreadsheets.

With the Google Docs support, Documents To Go Premium gives you the ability to download, view and edit your files from Google Docs, save and synchronize changes back to Google Docs, and upload file directly from your iPhone or iPod touch. After receiving the news I went to the App Store on my iPhone to check for updates and sure enough there was one available for Documents To Go. This was a FREE update for me as well. If you haven't yet purchased this Premium version then you can buy it for $14.99.

DataViz also submitted an update for their base Documents To Go version (available for $9.99) that will be free to existing customers and adds the following features:

• Support for Gmail attachments and the ability to edit/view these attachments using Docs To Go
• Freeze rows or columns in spreadsheets
• In-App purchase option to upgrade to the Premium version

One of the first things I plan to try on the Apple iPad is the capability of both DataViz Documents To Go and Quickoffice in comparison to Apple's iWork products. Both of these 3rd party applications are cheaper solutions than iWork and also both VERY capable.
