Weekend navigation: Microsoft rolls out Bing Mall Maps for Mobile

Microsoft rolled out Bing Mall Maps for Mobile designed to help you navigate the huge malls in America that house a number of stores and venues.

I have a wife and three daughters who love to shop and there are some nice malls in the Pacific Northwest. These malls keep getting bigger and bigger though and it is easy to get lost in them. Microsoft just added Bing Mall Maps to Bing for Mobile so you can navigate all the stores on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7, and RIM devices that support HTML5 in the web browsers. This weekend when you are out and about give it a try as you look for those HP TouchPad webOS savings.

Simply visit m.bing.com on your mobile device, enter a search term for your local mall, and then select the Mall Map link to the right of the search results term for your specific mall. I wasn't able to get this to work in the mobile version of the site on my Windows Phone, but when I switched to desktop view then it worked very well. The Bing Search client will likely need to be updated before you can find mall maps on the device outside of the browser. In desktop mode in Internet Explorer Mobile on a WP7 device you can see an index of stores to the left and tap on them to view them in the mall map. I think this will be quite helpful and all I need to find is the electronics stores, benches to sit why my ladies spend my money, and a place to enjoy some food.
