The Apple rumor mill never stops running, and today we have more rumors about a refresh of the company's MacBook laptops. Between the aging of its current MacBook Pro line and the introduction of Intel's latest Ivy Bridge processors, new models have been anticipated for months -- and it looks like the wait may soon be over.
According to our favorite rumormongers DigiTimes, its supply chain sources say that Apple suppliers will be pumping out a ton of new MacBooks starting next month. That production will apparently peak in July, giving Apple plenty of laptops for the back-to-school shopping season. Not coincidentally, the company's next major event -- the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) -- is taking place June 11-15, where it's speculated that new MacBooks will be introduced.
Adding more fuel to the fire, benchmarks have emerged that supposedly show a new MacBook Pro (as well as an iMac desktop) running with an Ivy Bridge Core i7-3820QM processor. The so-called "MacBookPro9,1" earned a Geekbench score that was 17 percent faster than the total that the current i7-powered MacBook Pro models use. Whether these benchmarks are in fact legit is always a lingering concern, but there's little doubt that Apple will rely on the new Intel CPUs for its new system.
