A new tablet computer is about to hit shelves, and it's one we've been awaiting for awhile now. The Dell Streak will be up for pre-order in the United States on August 12 with two price tag options.

Once dubbed the Dell Mini 5, the Android-based tablet computer hosts a 5-inch multi-touch WVGA display and runs on a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. Other necessary tablet specs include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G, a 5-megapixel camera, a VGA front-facing camera, a microSD card slot (up to 32GB) and access to the Android Market.

Interested buyers can sign up for the pre-sale on Thursday, but it's not much of an advance order given that the launch date is on August 13. However, pre-orders do come with two benefits: a free second-day shipping upgrade and a Plantronics Bluetooth earpiece for $0.99.

Customers can choose to pay either $299.99 with new two-year service contract with AT&T or $549.99 for complete carrier freedom. The Dell Streak has already been launched in the United Kingdom with O2. In comparison, the unlocked version is a deal in the U.S., but O2 UK subscribers got their tablets for free on contract.
