Spring Design will begin shipping Alex e-reader today

After some lengthy delays, Spring Design has worked out whatever problems they needed to with the Alex e-book reader, as they will start shipping the device today.

Originally supposed to launch on February 22 after a smashing debut at CES 2010, Spring Design pushed the release date to an unknown time in April, much to the dismay of those who were eager to order the device earlier.

But now, Spring Design's online store states that if you pre-order an Alex e-reader now, it will ship by April 14 - which happens to be today. So get your credit cards ready for this $399 device. It seems like a steep price to pay, and perhaps a price cut will happen soon, but overall the Alex does seem to be a promising gadget.
