SAP, CarbonFund spruce up sustainability management software

While SAP's solution is focused on the enterprise, Carbon ExpressTrack could help smaller companies get a handle on their impact.

To supplement my post earlier this week about an upgrade for the Hara Energy and Environmental Management application, wanted to note that two other applications that fall into the carbon management environmental software category have also been updated in the past few weeks. Both of the applications are offered as an on-demand service.

The first, SAP Carbon Impact OnDemand, is clearly targeted at enterprise-type companies. Version 5.0 of the software includes the following changes:

  • Language support for 50 different countries
  • Automated data collection capabilities that pull information from metering systems, utility systems dashboards and third-party applications, notably the SAP ERP enterprise resource planning application
  • Increased support for the regulatory requirements of carbon registries and authorities including the Carbon Disclosure Project and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
  • Benchmarking capabilities that let you compare, for example, the energy profile of one facility against comparable sites around the world

The other software update, from Carbonfund.org, is intended for smaller companies that are looking for an "affordable and accessible" solution for carbon reporting. The application, called Carbon ExpressTrack, allows SMBs to upload information about utility consumption, fleet metrics, travel behavior and other things that might affect energy usage. The reports you can create with Carbon ExpressTrack comply with the WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the EPA Climate Leaders Greenhouse Gas Inventory. Carbonfund.org, which is a non-profit organization, currently is offering a $59.99 per month subscription for the product.
