TeenTech Weekly: iPad hacks, Microsoft's Imagine Cup, Facebook brawls

This edition of TeenTech weekly rounds up Generation Y and student news that you may have missed. This week we've read about iPad hacks, Microsoft's Imagine Cup and Facebook brawls.

1.) iPad Hack: Is Jailbreaking Any Way to Get a Job at Apple?

A young developer has found a genius way to get Apple's attention: figure out how to make their signature product better for users and then get the users to sell the idea to Apple. The developer, a Georgia Tech student named Daniel Hooper, follows a long line of people who have tried to use their hacking skills as entreé into Apple.

2.) Students' tech brings doctor-patient relationship into the cloud.

Just last week, a trio of students from NUI Maynooth won the overall Irish finals of the 2012 Microsoft Imagine Cup. The three students won for their cloud-based doctor patient system that's aiming to make it easier for doctors to monitor patient conditions in real-time.

3) Mayor announces 2nd tech campus for NYC.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is marking another milestone in the Applied Sciences NYC initiative. He announced Monday that a second proposal for a high-tech campus will go forward in downtown Brooklyn.

4.) Students face discipline for posting state tests online.

Some students at Murrieta Mesa High School face suspension because they posted photos of state standardized testing documents on social networking sites, violating security procedures for the exams.

5.) 25 year-old bags his place on a $36,000 US-based MBA program thanks to a tweet.

A 25 year-old Indian man has won a place on the University of Iowa’s Tippie MBA program thanks to Twitter, after his tweet-entry saw him selected as the sole recipient of its international scholarship.

6.) Facebook turned teen girls' rivalry into school brawl.

All it takes is a provocative "status" or an in-your-face tweet and it's on. This dynamic seems to be behind an ongoing conflict involving groups of sophomores and junior females at the Chicago Academy of Advance Technology (CAT) on the near West Side.

7.) Student does hi-tech revamp of UC Berkeley dorm room.

One University of California Berkeley freshman has tricked out his dorm room in a way that would put some bachelor pads to shame. Derek Low's has created is a system in his dorm room that he calls B.R.A.D., which stands for Berkeley ridiculously automated dorm.

8.) Top 5 Tech Tools for Student Journalists.

The predicament facing journalists today is in how to embrace the digital -- in deciding which technologies journalists should use, and how.

9.) Southern career college launches $100,000 information technology lab.

Jacksonville's Southern Career College introduces a new $100,000 computer lab for students studying Network Administration at the higher education institution. Students in the program gain employable skills in information technology network design, configuration, administration and troubleshooting.

10.) My View: Students with hearing loss benefit from mix of technology, teaching.
