MobileTechRoundup show #132, AT&T/iPhone rumors, new REDFLY, Advantage, Kindle and more

T-Mobile is finally starting to rollout their 3G network and there was much rejoicing to start off MobileTechRoundup show #132. We also kicked around the rumor that AT&T may subsidize the next 3G iPhone and last week they were offering WiFi access for iPhone owners. However, that pipe may have been closed now. I just purchased a Celio REDFLY and it actually just arrived yesterday so look for some more feedback on my blog. The HTC Advantage 7510 updated model is coming out soon and James is quite excited. We also talked about the Kindle and Kevin has actually been using James' for a bit and offers some thoughts. Kevin and James are also a part of the amazing HP 31 Days of the Dragon contest so make sure to enter as often as you can to win this sweet setup worth over US$5,000.

MobileTechRoundup show #131, WiFi or 3G, what is the mobile users preference?

MobileTechRoundup show #131, WiFi or 3G, what is the mobile users preference?

AT&T is starting to take over for T-Mobile in providing WiFi access at Starbucks and other locations so to kick off MobileTechRoundup show #131 James provided his thoughts on using another alternative solution, Boingo Wireless. I also used their Boingo Mobile service in Spain on my Nseries devices so I provided some thoughts on the service too. Kevin and I tested out the new Skype beta on my Nokia N95-3 before the show and it was impressive. Listen to also find out what would compel us to upgrade to the upcoming 3G iPhone and if any cohost plans to do so. Kevin brought up a freeware from Paul at MoDaCo.com that removes duplicate contacts and then James mentioned the Outlook duplicate remover he found years ago at a UK church website that is actually still providing the utility for free. We hear Palm is beta testing a new device on the Sprint network, but is it too little too late for them? We end by asking whether a hotspot or 3G data is the preferred service for the mobile user.

Mobile software Monday: SplashMoney for Windows Mobile

Mobile software Monday: SplashMoney for Windows Mobile

I load up quite a few 3rd party applications on my mobile devices and a few stick around and appear on all of my devices because I find them essential for my daily life. One application that I tried several years ago on my Palm Treo was SplashMoney from SplashData. It has been a few years since I used a Palm OS device as a primary device, so I was quite pleased to hear of the recent launch of SplashMoney version 4.0 for Windows Mobile devices. My T-Mobile Shadow is found in my pocket most of the time so I quickly loaded it up with SplashMoney's non-touch screen version. I also loaded the desktop client on my Fujitsu U810 and the touch screen client on the HTC Advantage. They also now have a Mac desktop version, but that does not sync to Windows Mobile devices. You can see just over 20 screenshots of SplashMoney on my two Windows Mobile devices and a PC in my image gallery.
