Hulu Plus now available on Roku boxes for $7.99 per month

Hulu rolled out the Hulu Plus channel for the Roku and also knocked down the monthly subscription fee to just $7.99 per month. Can it replace your cable now?

I wrote about Hulu Plus coming to the Roku back at the end of September and have been holding out on starting up my subscription until that channel was added to the Roku. I am pleased to tell you that the Hulu Plus channel is now available with a subscription price of $7.99 per month. I immediately subscribed and setup my Roku XDS and installed the iPad application so I can now view Hulu Plus content when I travel with my constant travel companion.

You might notice that the new subscription price is $7.99 per month compared to the preview price of $9.99 per month. Hulu stated they will credit back the difference for those who were already subscribers, which is a nice gesture. All new subscribers will get a one week free trial too.

When you subscribe to Hulu Plus you get the ability to access the service from a number of devices, including the Roku and iPad. Other supported devices include connected TVs, Blu-Ray players, other set-top boxes, the PlayStation 3 with Xbox 360 support coming soon, and the iPhone and iPod touch. You can check out the walk through video of Hulu Plus and the Roku blog post on the topic. Note that you get one free month of Hulu Plus with the new purchase of a Roku device through 15 December.

Now that I have my Roku and iPad setup with Hulu Plus, I plan to check out the content and see if I can truly cut the cord to the cable.
