The iPad brings you the weather in a whole new way

Do you get excited about the weather? Now you can with the new Weather HD App for the iPad
Written by Joel Evans, Contributor

I have to admit that I rarely use the built-in Weather app on my iPhone. Instead, I prefer to use the AccuWeather one and even some others. The main reason being that the Weather app doesn't provide the detailed information that I require, nor is it that exciting to use.

It sounds like the folks at Apple HQ were aware of the fact that people aren't using the built-in Weather App and as a result, the iPad doesn't ship with one. Will one come soon from Apple? No one knows, but if you can't get enough of your weather information, the usual players will have an offering but there's also a newcomer whose app has definitely caught my interest.

The iPad App is called Weather HD and features beautiful animation for each weather condition. It's not clear if it offers anything else, as I haven't downloaded it since I don't have an iPad yet, but you can bet that I'll pick this one up for 99 cents once I get my iPad up and running. Watch the quick video below to see the App in action.

By the way, the idea of animations to illustrate weather conditions on a mobile device is not new and I believe the first instance was actually implemented by HTC. The biggest difference being that the weather animation is actually part of the homescreen on the HTC device, whereas it has to be a separate App on the iPad. If you're not familiar with HTC's implementation, check out the video that a user put together below that shows off all of the different weather conditions.
