RSA Roundup: Oracle's database firewall, Juniper, Fortinet

As the RSA security powwow kicks off this week, multiple security vendors are unveiling new software and gear. Here's a brief roundup:

• Oracle on Monday said its Oracle Database Firewall was available. The firewall uses "SQL grammar analysis" to prevent SQL injection attacks and other attempts to grab information. The Oracle Database Firewall features white and black lists policies, exceptions and rules that mark the time of day, IP address, application and user. Oracle says its firewall can be deployed in-line or in the network.  According to Oracle, its firewall works with Oracle Database 11g and below, IBM DB2, Microsoft SQL Server and Sybase.

• Juniper Networks said it integrated its security gateways---vGW Virtual Gateway and SRX Series Services Gateways---for private and public cloud deployments. Juniper acquired Altor in December and the integration is the first step in integrated physical and virtualized security. In a nutshell, this integrated approach allows the equipment to recognize virtualized and cloud environments as well as physical gear.
• Fortinet launched a new security appliance for data centers. The FortiGate 3140B is designed for large companies and data centers that need a high level of protection in a small footprint. The FortiGate 3140B features 58 gigabits per second firewall performance, 10 Gbps of intrusion prevention and 22 gigabits per second of VPN performance. The appliance is designed for 2-rack units in data centers.
