Virtustream, Nimbula strengthen their cloud platforms
Virtustream announced a major upgrade of its cloud management platform for private, virtual private, public and hybrid clouds.
xStream 2.0, which was announced Tuesday, is available as software, an appliance or as a managed service. It runs as a macro hypervisor and cloud director that is compatible with all leading virtualization software and hardware as well as service provider installations,
The upgraded platform gives enterprise customers tools for managing hybrid clouds as well as VMTM technology for providing multi-tenant virtualization customized by each application.
The company announced that xStream 2.0 offers a variety of enterprise-class and service provider-class capabilities including:
• Hybrid Cloud Solution: xStream allows enterprises to control their IT infrastructure as a single cloud, combining onsite private clouds, offsite virtual private/public clouds and managed cloud services providing a tailored hybrid cloud to suit each enterprise’s requirements;
• Enterprise-Grade Security and Compliance: xStream provides multi-layered logical and physical cloud security, in-depth threat monitoring and includes silicon-level authentication with Intel TxT, to meet the highest security and compliance standards, enabling enterprises to meet: NIST 800-53 (Federal), DIACAP, ICD503 (Defense), FISMA (Government), G-Cloud (U.K. Government), SSAE16 (Audit), ISO27001 (Service), HIPAA (Healthcare), PCI (e-commerce), SAS70 (Audit), ODCA and other industry standards;
• Application Performance SLAs: xStream uses patented Virtustream µVMTM technology to optimally and dynamically combine compute, memory, network and storage to deliver application performance assured by commercial SLAs, with cloud efficiency; and,
• Consumption Based Pricing/Chargeback: xStream allows true consumption based pricing/chargeback, so enterprises pay only for resources that they actually use, each 5 minutes.
Meanwhile, Nimbula last week announced a partnership with cloud software factory provider uShareSoft to ease application delivery across private and hyrbid clouds.
By integrating USharesoft's UForge with Nimbula Director, enterprise customers will have access to robust automation and self-service capabilities for their software and applications. This willl allow for management and provisioning of approved application stacks and keep "VM sprawl" under control, the companies announced jointly at Cloud Expo East recently. The application stacks can be deployed across hybrid clouds and extended to public clouds as well.
Director currently provides automation and self-service capabilities for compute, network and storage resources. Nimbula, of Mountain View, Calif, was founded by the team that created Amazon's EC2.
