'ZDNET Recommends': What exactly does it mean?

ZDNET's recommendations are based on many hours of testing, research, and comparison shopping. We gather data from the best available sources, including vendor and retailer listings as well as other relevant and independent reviews sites. And we pore over customer reviews to find out what matters to real people who already own and use the products and services we’re assessing.

When you click through from our site to a retailer and buy a product or service, we may earn affiliate commissions. This helps support our work, but does not affect what we cover or how, and it does not affect the price you pay. Neither ZDNET nor the author are compensated for these independent reviews. Indeed, we follow strict guidelines that ensure our editorial content is never influenced by advertisers.

ZDNET's editorial team writes on behalf of you, our reader. Our goal is to deliver the most accurate information and the most knowledgeable advice possible in order to help you make smarter buying decisions on tech gear and a wide array of products and services. Our editors thoroughly review and fact-check every article to ensure that our content meets the highest standards. The best TV deals in 2024

This TV has 50 inches of display real estate, backed by LEDs for 4K Full HD viewing. Considering just how cheap this TV is, it's our favorite deal.

If you're hoping to spend less for more TV real estate, consider a deal we've found at Best Buy for a 75-inch Hisense model. Currently available with a discount of $80, this Hisense model offers a 4K UHD resolution display and a 60Hz refresh rate, with Google Assistant built-in.

  • Current price: $7,500

The Terrace from Samsung is an outdoor TV that is designed to handle the elements, extreme temperatures, and even insects. And with integrated Wi-Fi, you can download all of your favorite streaming apps to turn your outdoor space into the ultimate entertaining area.

An affordable option is Amazon's Fire TV. Sporting a 32-inch display and all of the smart functions you expect in a modern TV -- including access to streaming services and viewing in HD 720p resolution. This Fire TV also offers Alexa skills and synchronization across other Fire TV devices.

  • Current price: $558
  • Original price: $648

A mid-range TV option in terms of quality -- but a top-tier option when it comes to size -- is an LG model available at Walmart. This TV, currently on sale with a $90 discount, offers you 70 inches of display real estate, 4K Ultra HD resolution, and a 60Hz refresh rate.

How did we choose these TV deals?

When we selected our favorite TV deals, we took into consideration a number of factors, including:

  • Price: We chose TVs on sale with robust discounts since larger screen sizes and OLED models can get fairly expensive -- even with sales. However, we've also included budget-friendly models that have a comparatively decent discount based on percentages, even though the amount saved might be low.
  • Screen sizes: We also chose a variety of screen sizes from brands like Samsung, Sony, TCL, and LG to suit different spaces and budgets.
  • Display technologies: We ensured that all manner of display technologies were represented in our list, from affordable LED devices to high-spec QLED and OLED models.
  • Inside and outside use: While the majority of the deal options we have listed are for inside use, we have also included some models that are suitable for the outdoors -- perfect for gatherings and sports events.

What is our favorite TV deal?

Our favorite deal this month is for the Insignia F30 smart TV. This 50-inch TV, available with a $90 discount that brings the overall cost down to only $210, could be an excellent addition to your living room or bedroom. This LED model provides 4K Ultra HD viewing.

What is better for my space -- QLED or OLED models?

It depends on your space. In a nutshell, QLED models are designed for a brighter viewing area. OLEDs on the other hand offer a more cinematic experience for nighttime viewing or darkened spaces. ZDNET expert Michael Gariffo goes into much more detail here.

Which TV brand is the most reliable?

Based on our research and personal experience, several brands consistently have proved themselves to be reliable: Sony, Samsung, LG, and Insignia.

You should consider an extended warranty and perhaps a surge protector to cover faulty hardware and potential electrical damage, but in many cases, TVs produced by these vendors will still be going strong years later.

What TV size do I need?

While it does come down to personal preference, when you are purchasing a new TV, you should consider what room the TV is for. Generally, the longer your viewing distance, the larger the TV -- and with viewing distances of over 13ft, you should consider a TV with a display size of 65 inches or more.

You can use the Which? calculator to determine the best size for you based on viewing distance.
