Alcatel-Lucent on Wednesday launched a 40 gigabit Ethernet switch designed for companies looking to launch cloud services.
The module connects to the company’s OmniSwitch 6900 enterprise network switch. Alcatel-Lucent is positioning the module as a way for enterprises to deliver internal cloud services.
These modules can be connected to create a 40 gigabit Ethernet (40 GigE) Pod that can support video, large file transfers and collaboration tools.
According to Alcatel-Lucent, the 40 GigE Pod evolves the company's mesh cloud networking architecture. Switching partners for the 40 GigE Pod include Emulex, NetApp and VMware.
