SINGAPORE - While it's a far cry from "building the world a home," The Coca-Cola Company will certainly try to build a better communication network for its worldwide operation.

The soft-drink giant has awarded Equant, the network and integration provider, a five-year, US$47 million contract to build a global communication network spanning 250 cities and 87 countries.

To date, The Coca-Cola's communication network has been a patch-work of area networks built by multiple communications providers over a number of years.

Equant will replace that with a single network that will allow Coca-Cola's employees, suppliers and vendors to access data services and information inside and outside the company.

Coca-Cola will also roll out a range of business applications through the network to its employees worldwide.

Equant's Frame Relay and Local Area Network Access Service will be deployed to facilitate the network.

In addition, Equant's Integrated Voice and Data Service are also selected for specific locations.
