"Calls from a Telstra home phone or Telstra mobile, in Australia, to our general inquiry numbers for consumers and small businesses will be free, as well as calls to our fault numbers, the BigPond helpdesk and our general service number for prepaid mobile," Thodey said in a Telstra Exchange blog post.

This move was one of a number of possible initiatives announced by Thodey last month on the same blog, with the CEO saying that the free service calls had been deemed by customers to be the "most important". More than 200 people had provided feedback on the initiatives.

Thodey has made it clear since starting with the company that Telstra is trying to put a focus on customer service.
