Xiaomi’s 5G devices to be launched next year will cover all the price ranges as the company aims to fully accelerate 5G phones, according to company founder Lei Jun.
All the three state-backed telecom operators, China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, unveiled their 5G plans on Thursday, one day ahead of the official launch of 5G services in the country, with the cheapest package priced as low as $18 per month.
Although most Chinese smartphone brands have launched 5G phones, their sales in China remain a very small portion due to high prices and limited network coverage.
China Unicom has struck a deal with its rival China Telecom to build their 5G networks together to cut costs.
Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chengdu have been identified as the top five Chinese cities to lead 5G development.
Huawei is also scheduled to ship its foldable 5G smartphone, the Mate X, this month.
Taiwan's 3G networks will be removed by the end of the year and 5G services will not be available in the territory until 2020 at the earliest, according to reports.
