Tech news has been dominated this week by Google's announcements regarding their upcoming Chrome OS. Plenty of geeks are excited; so are plenty of industry insiders and business analysts. You know who aren't excited? Those who say we aren't ready for an OS dependent upon "The Cloud."
Indiana charter schools save big with virtualization
The GEO Foundation, the major supporter of charter schools in Indiana (as well as Colorado) announced today that it was adopting virtualization technology to save money and resources and to deliver 1:1 solutions to students in its schools. In a press release today, the Foundation notedCitrix XenDesktop™ helped the GEO Foundation to centralize their computing functions and drive down associated costs.
So just what can Sun do for us?
It turns out they can do quite a bit and in a fairly cost-effective manner. I had a followup call (in response to a few blog posts about my interview with Joe Hartley) with the Northeast K-12 representative for Sun Microsystems last week and he outlined a number of programs available to educators both for curriculum and hardware/software acquisition.
