Speech recognition systems grow up
In this 9:38 minutes video, the managing director of VeCommerce Paul Magee demonstrates how speech recognition is being used by Australian betting firm UniTab to enable punters to make complicated wagers without requiring a human operator.Magee visited the ZDNet Australia offices last week to show off how the UniTAB system allows callers to speak using natural language and gives them the freedom to change their minds half way through a transaction.
NICTA bug killing tool heads for beta trials
An updated version of the Goanna code scanning tool, which is capable of sniffing out buffer overflows and memory errors prior to code being compiled, was on display at the National ICT Australia Techfest in Melbourne this week.Last year, researchers unveiled a prototype of Goanna that could scan rudimentary code and find basic errors.
NICTA touts prototype code-analysis tool
National ICT Australia (NICTA), a research institute that attempts to commercialise projects from a selection of the country's finest academics, has been demonstrating an analysis tool that scans code for bugs and security vulnerabilities.At the NICTA Techfest exhibition in Sydney on Wednesday, formal methods researchers Dr Gerwin Klein and Dr Ralf Huuck were demonstrating the tool, called Goanna.
