Obviously Steve Ballmer is not going to announce HP's first offering in the "slate" category (it's a tablet, folks, but if he feels the need to call it a slate, whatever) running the latest Linux distribution made for MIDs, netbooks, and, well, slates. Unfortunately, by simply shoehorning the Windows 7 interface (albeit a great desktop/notebook UI) into an interesting and relatively novel form factor, the announcement of HP's slate was just a big yawn.

At the end of last year we invested in quite a few thin clients (and the servers to run them) for 3 different computer labs. While the rollout hasn't been without its struggles, the experience has overall been very positive.
I just got my budget for next year and, while it's meager as always (especially since I have some new sizable lease payments to take care of), it looks as though I can finally begin refreshing teacher laptops. This begs the question, though, what kind of laptops should I buy?
