As I blogged about earlier this week, James Kendrick has had an HP Mini-Note PC for over a week to review and most all of MobileTechRoundup show #129 was devoted to our discussion about the device. Kevin and I don't have one, but something happened during the show that may soon change that. After our long discussion on this new ultra portable device, we talked a bit about T9 versus QWERTY on mobile phones.

I have been using the Yahoo! Go 3 beta application on my Nokia N95-3 and on the BlackBerry Pearl, but was waiting anxiously for this latest version to come to Windows Mobile so I could try it out on my Shadow. According to Dieter at WM Experts the wait is over and you can now download this latest client for Windows Mobile. You can have Yahoo! send you a link via SMS or visit get.go.yahoo.com from your mobile browser.
I wrote about the Garnet Virtual Machine for Nokia Internet Tablets last year and if you remember this is the application that allows you to run Palm OS applications on your Nseries device. I used it from time-to-time, but I was unable to run my TideTool application and it didn't take advantage of the display on these Tablets. ACCESS sent me an email announcing the release of Beta 2 (version 1.01b) that you can now download and install for free.
The Celio REDFLY Mobile Companion provides Windows Mobile users with a large 8 inch display and keyboard for faster text entry and a better viewing experience. The device is rock solid and I placed my pre-order for the device, which just arrived in the full retail packaging (not in the review plain brown box). I have tested it with the HTC Advantage and T-Mobile Shadow so far and like the full screen experience.
T-Mobile is finally starting to rollout their 3G network and there was much rejoicing to start off MobileTechRoundup show #132. We also kicked around the rumor that AT&T may subsidize the next 3G iPhone and last week they were offering WiFi access for iPhone owners. However, that pipe may have been closed now. I just purchased a Celio REDFLY and it actually just arrived yesterday so look for some more feedback on my blog. The HTC Advantage 7510 updated model is coming out soon and James is quite excited. We also talked about the Kindle and Kevin has actually been using James' for a bit and offers some thoughts. Kevin and James are also a part of the amazing HP 31 Days of the Dragon contest so make sure to enter as often as you can to win this sweet setup worth over US$5,000.
While the giveaway I am going to talk about doesn't relate to a mobile device, my fellow MobileTechRoundup podcast co-hosts are a part of the contest and I think it is such a MAJOR contest that my readers here would enjoy entering for a chance to win. Today is the first day of the 31 Days of the Dragon contest sponsored by HP anb BuzzCorps. For 31 days they will be giving away a HP HDX Dragon Entertainment Notebook that is tricked out with amazing hardware and software with a retail value of over US$5,000.
Kevin, James and I spent a large chunk of MobileTechRoundup show #135 talking about the sub-notebook market with the new Nano chip from VIA, the Dell and Acer, and more so if you have any interest in this market listen to this latest show. I also spent a few minutes talking about the upgrade for my Nokia N95-3 and some initial thoughts on the N82. The Palm 850 and Nokia E71 are also rumored devices that may be more than just a rumor very soon.
Kevin, James, and I decided to make MobileTechRoundup show #158 a bit longer since it will be our last one of 2008. You can listen to our thoughts on what we thought was the best of 2008 in the mobile space. We also offered up some predictions for 2009. Look for shorter, more focused podcasts in 2009 too since we realize that people's time is precious and 30 to 40 minutes per show may be too much for casual listening. Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
I wrote up some first impressions and experiences of the TeleNav Shotgun internet-connected personal navigation device early last week and was just informed of a super Cyber Monday special they will have on 1 December. If you purchase the TeleNave Shotgun then you can get six months of free service by using the coupon code 'sgcybermonday' during checkout.
It turns out that we ended up with another show almost fully focused on netbooks so if you are interested in this topic check out MobileTechRoundup show #153. Kevin continues to confuse his MSI Wind by now installing Windows 7 on the device, after trying XP, Vista, and Mac OS X. James wrote up a blog post I linked to in regards to MIDs and this was discussed by all three of us on this show. If battery life is your focus then you may want to check out the Samsung NC10 too. HP also continues in the netbook category with their new HP Mini 1000.
