Matthew Miller started using mobile devices in 1997 and has been writing news, reviews, and opinion pieces ever since. He was a co-host, with Kevin Tofel, of the MobileTechRoundup podcast for 13 years and authored three Wiley Companion seri…es books. Matthew started using mobile devices with a US Robotics Pilot 1000 and has owned hundreds of devices running Palm, Linux, Symbian, Newton, BlackBerry, iOS, Android, webOS, Windows Mobile, and Windows Phone operating systems. His current collection includes a Galaxy Z Fold 3, COROS Vertix 2, Garmin Fenix 945 LTE, Microsoft Surface Pro 6, and many more, along with classic devices like the Apple Newton MessagePad 2100 and Sony CLIE UX50. Matthew can be found on various social networks under the user name of "palmsolo."

Matthew is a professional naval architect by day and a mobile gadgeteer at all other times. He purchases his own devices and then sells them on Swappa to buy more. Many other devices are sent for review on a typical 30-day or long-term loan basis and then returned to the carrier or manufacturer.

HTC Touch Diamond to pass 1 million mark in August, rumors of US CDMA models surface

The HTC Touch Diamond is an outstanding Windows Mobile device and according to an article on Into Mobile HTC will reach the one million device mark by mid-August with plans to ship two million units this year. The one million mark is a nice achievement, especially considering the device is not yet available in the U.S. and has had a limited roll out so far. HTC sold one million original Touch devices in five months and it has only been since June when the Touch Diamond launched in select European countries.

I am a big fan of ultra portable devices and particularly enjoy using my Fujitsu U810 with long battery life. I just read about the Willcom D4 UMPC over on the CNET Asia Crave blog and have to say this looks like one impressive device. It is one of the first devices running with an Intel Atom processor. Akihabara News was able to get some hands-on time with the device and posted over 80 photos showing it off in all its glory.

Larry posted the news about the updated Zune Pass music subscription service and after checking out the press release in detail I am going to sign back up for the monthly service. Getting to keep some songs for my own collection each month was the kicker that pushed me over the edge because now there is some real tangible value from the service in case it ever ends.

There have been rumors floating around of a Zune phone and I personally am not that excited about such a device and wonder if many people really are. The latest rumors about the Zune and phones though does seem to make a bit of sense. Zunescene reported that Nokia iw working with the Zune team on integration of Zune Marketplace content. Nokia has a music store, but it is not available in the United States yet and I think if Nokia could get their devices to support the Zune Marketplace they would have a fairly well established library of music content that actually may help sell more Nokia devices in the U.S.

HTC is kicking off a North American campaign and holding a London event on May 6th

There is lots of speculation surrounding the special invite-only May 6th HTC event being held for 100 selected members of the press in London. Are we going to see a Google Android device, a new HTC form factor Windows Mobile device, or another iteration of an existing Windows Mobile device? Arne over at th::unwired posted a leaked photo submitted to Mobile Review that shows possibly two new HTC devices. HTC is also kicking off a new North American brand campaign to create more brand awareness of their excellent Windows Mobile products.

Windows 7 is now out and available and if you have a netbook you probably have heard that it runs quite well on these compact notebooks. MobileTechRoundup show #187, Windows 7, B&N Nook, Nokia N900

Windows 7 was the big news of the week and James, Kevin, and I started off MobileTechRoundup show #186 talking about this latest Microsoft operating system. Hopefully James doesn't really go try to eat a Burger King Whopper 7 today. I talked a bit more about the Nokia N900 now that I have had this mobile Linux computer for almost 2 weeks. The other big news of the week was the Barnes & Noble Nook and James sounds like he is as excited as me, although I am the only one who placed a pre-order so far. Amazon didn't want to be left out of the ebook news and also announced Kindle for PC this week.
