97% of spam was not CAN-SPAM-compliant

MX Logic reported that one year after the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act went into effect, on average 97% of unsolicited commercial email over the past year failed to comply with the federal anti-spam law. On average, spam accounted for 77% of all email traffic in 2004.

ACA, AHTCC team up to fight spam

The Australian Communications Authority (ACA) has joined forces with the Australian High Tech Crime Centre (AHTCC) in the fight against spam.ACA acting chairman Bob Horton announced that the ACA has staff stationed inside the AHTCC in Canberra allowing efficient exchange of information and expertise about cyber offences with police investigators, and to work jointly on cases.

Kiwis to peck at spam

New Zealand is likely to join Australia in the fight against spam, according to the latter's IT Minister, Daryl Williams. The Kiwis are considering developing their own spam legislation based on Australia's Spam Act.
