NetApp intros software-defined object storage for hybrid cloud adoption

NetApp on Tuesday rolled out a new object-storage software offering that it says helps organizations leverage the hybrid cloud.

The StorageGRID Webscale is supported by Amazon S3 and stores up to 100 billion objects in a single elastic container that can be distributed in disparate datacenters. It runs on a virtualized server infrastructure with either NetApp E-Series data storage systems or third-party storage arrays providing the storage foundation.

The storage company said Webscale is a foundational platform within its approach to object storage, as it addresses cost, compliance, availability and performance requirements.
