Check Point Connectra 2.0
At first glance there appears to be nothing special about Check Point’s Connectra Web security gateway. Like other SSL-based VPN (Virtual Private Network) solutions, it’s designed to connect remote and mobile users to a corporate network, and do so without the need for special client software -- just an SSL-enabled browser. However, Connectra has a couple of extra tricks up its sleeve -- most notably, integrated application and endpoint security to protect the network against trojans, spyware and other nasties that could, otherwise, be spread by infected remote endpoints.

Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook P1510
Fujitsu Siemens is a Tablet PC specialist, producing both slate-style devices like the Stylistic ST5022 and convertibles such as the LifeBook T4010C. The company 's latest offering is a diminutive convertible system that in clamshell mode rivals Toshiba’s Libretto U100, while in Tablet PC mode is somewhat thicker that Motion Computing's slate-style LS800. At first glance at least, the P1510 has all the design panache we expect from Fujitsu Siemens.

Route 66 Mobile Britain 2006 for UIQ
Route 66 has a lower profile in the UK than many other navigation software vendors, due in part to the company’s rather American-sounding name, but also to a dearth of marketing activity. When we looked at the 2005 version of Route 66’s software for Symbian we found it to be competent. Now we are trying the 2006 version for UIQ (one of the interfaces that runs on top of the Symbian OS). We evaluated the Great Britain edition, but if you're prepared to spend €399 (~£269) you can have the same software with maps for a number of European countries.

AirMagnet Spectrum Analyzer
Invisible problems are the hardest to fix, and until we evolve eyes that respond to radio waves, wireless will remain thoroughly out of sight. Radio engineers have long bypassed their organic shortcomings with specialised test equipment, the most highly prized of which is the spectrum analyzer. This sweeps through a band, plotting energy received at the frequencies where it’s found. With practice, all manner of problems can be recognised by the patterns they make.

Zetadocs PDF
Adobe's PDF (Portable Document Format) is pretty much ubiquitous these days, its main advantage being that PDFs are hard for users to edit, which provides a measure of control over distributed information. PDF also copes well with graphics-rich material, locking it into a layout that reproduces accurately on a wide range of platforms. Finally, Adobe's PDF reader is free, so there's no cost barrier to access (you can download Adobe Reader here).

Blue Coat Spyware Interceptor
Able to cope with networks of up to 1,000 users, Blue Coat’s Spyware Interceptor is a self-contained network appliance designed to screen out and block keyloggers, pop-up ads, malicious ActiveX/Java components and other spyware traffic. No client software is required, and the proxy server technology involved has no obvious impact on performance. It's also remarkably easy to deploy, with automatic updates and very little setup work or day-to-day management required.
