    The connected home was a hot topic at CES this year, and as a result, smart security is beginning to emerge. One such product showcased at CES 2015 is the Schlage Sense system. The product replaces traditional lock-and-key systems with a smart lock, linked to an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, and protected with end-to-end encryption. The lock can also be controlled using Apple's voice assistant, Siri.

    Multi-purposes casing

    Unveiled at CES, the AT&T Modio is a little different from all the cases available for the iPad and iPad mini. The Modio not only protects your gadget, but also acts as a stand, adds 4G LTE to Wi-Fi only models, and includes a slot to increase your iPad or iPad mini's storage with a microSD card. According to the US carrier, the Modio can act as a 4G hotspot for up to 10 hours on a single charge, of which can be controlled via a soon-to-be-released app.

    A gadget for iPhone and iPad users interested in photography, the iblazr LED Flash is an enhanced lighting system for various smartphone and tablet models -- as well as digital, analogue and lomography cameras. The tiny gadget, demoed at CES 2015, connects to your mobile device through the audio jack and works best in low-light conditions. iblazr contains its own inbuilt battery which is enough for over 500 flashes per charge.

    Infotainment for iOS users

    Parrot, most well-known for personal drone development, has extended its business model into other industries. One device revealed at CES 2015 is the Parrot RNB 6, the firm's answer to connected car infotainment systems. The device, based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, is compatible with both Google's Auto and Apple's CarPlay. It includes a navigation system, hands-free calls, driver assistance, app usage and vehicle diagnostics.

    Smart lighting

    Misfit didn't finish CES 2015 with the launch of Swarovski-clustered fitness trackers. Instead, the wearable technology developer also announced the launch of the Live Brilliant -- a smart, wireless bulb controlled with your Apple device. The Misfit Home mobile app allows the user to change the colors displayed by the bulb.

    You can pre-order the lighting system for $49.99, with shipping in February.

    Smart appliances and Apple HomeKit

    For more smart home ideas, consider Incipio's range of household gadgets and appliances which take advantage of Apple's HomeKit technology.

    The manufacturer released a number of different smart household items, including the Incipio Direct Wireless Smart Outlet, Wireless Smart Light Bulb Adapter and Wireless Smart Power Strip. All of these items support Apple’s HomeKit framework and so can be controlled through iOS apps. Apple's Siri can be used to control home appliances and iOS apps can be used to customise wireless networks and to control power usage.
