Essential Firefox Add-ons to improve your productivity

  • LeechBlock

    LeechBlock

If you find yourself constantly distracted from work by social media updates, the YouTube video you'll "just take five minutes out" to watch or by online gaming, LeechBlock is a simple tool to enforce better discipline. The Add-on can be used to block specific sites at different times during the day or for fixed periods of time -- such as 30 minutes of every hour -- and can also be password-protected if you want to lock your system for child users.

    Wired Marker

One of the handiest tools in my browser kit, Wired-Marker is an Add-on which allows you to add highlights to web pages. Students who are writing notes on online sources, for example, can highlight important parts of an article which are then automatically bookmarked, allowing them to go back quickly for referencing either by page or by highlight. You can also add notes to your highlighted areas.

    Tile View

Useful for those who wish to view multiple web pages at the same time, Tile View is a handy Firefox Add-on which changes your browser window to display multiple websites in a tiled layout. You can customize the Add-on and select horizontal, vertical or grid-based layouts -- and you only need to drag a tab or link to add it to your display.

    Awesome Screenshot

A decent screenshot system is often a must to improve efficiency and productivity. While there are many Firefox Add-ons on offer, Awesome Screenshot is my favorite due to the fact it is lightweight and very simply to use -- and if you opt for the plus version, you can also annotate your captured images.

  • Todoist

    Todoist

Every productivity list needs a way to organize your day -- and the Todoist Add-on is an excellent choice for Firefox users. The Add-on acts as both a to-do list and task manager which can be spread across multiple devices. Available in both free and premium versions, this sleek tool includes a built-in calendar, as well as the option to add tasks, sub-tasks and push Gmail or Outlook emails into your to-do list directly. If you opt for premium, you can set up email or text message reminders to finish select tasks.

  • Reader

    Reader

If you're constantly reading articles online, the Reader Add-on is a useful tool to stop you straining your eyes and slowing down. The Add-on creates custom font, color and article layouts to alter your browsing experience, and you can port text from pages in order to read it more easily within the Reader pane. You can also email and print ported pages.

  • URL Fixer

    URL Fixer

A small alteration to browsing experiences but certainly a valuable one, URL Fixer can save you time by automatically correcting typographical errors in typed website addresses. For example, Google.con will automatically change to Google.com.

  • LastPass

    LastPass

Finally, LastPass is a security-based Add-on which can improve your productivity by shaving time off daily tasks. Once you sign up for a LastPass account, you can use the Firefox Add-on to store account user logins and passwords securely -- and command the Add-on to automatically fill in these forms. One of the better features of the service is the option to generate complex passwords which are difficult to crack -- and easy to remember since the Add-on does the work for you.
