Gadgets of the future: From 3D food printers to shape shifting vacuum cleaners

3F stands for “Form Follows Function”. The physical body of this vacuum cleaner can change and mutate to suit the task required. It is designed to economise space in compact and urban apartments; you can add scents for it to emit depending on what you want to smell in the home.

The inspiration for this product comes from ballet dancing: while at work it resembles a skirt, floating gracefully over your floor. Whether used in compact or wide mode, it is a vacuum cleaner providing 'efficiency, smartness and empathy to the user'.

3F has been designed by  by Germain Verbrackel who is studying industrial design at EDNA (Ecole de Design Nantes Atlantique) France.

Atomium is a 3D printer that uses molecular ingredients to construct food layer by layer. The product helps children prepare their own food in a fun and interactive way by turning eating into an 'enjoyable, creative and healthy activity'.

Children can draw the shape of the food they would like to eat, show it to the appliance which then detects this information and prints food in the desired shape as well as choosing molecular ingredients to construct nutritional balance for user’s body also making eating healthier.

It has been designed by Lucia Silva studying Bachelor of Design, Federal University of Technology- Parana, Brazil.

Global Chef is a kitchen appliance and service that connects people and cultures across the globe through cooking using hologram technology. Global Chef enables people to cook together regardless of distance. Whether it is with a friend, a stranger or an elite chef it becomes a 'social experience aimed to reinvigorate the passion in the kitchen'.

With the help of the appliance you can cook with your loved ones and even take cooking lessons from the world’s top chefs.  The appliance  has a motion detection camera and can project holograms 360° around itself making it a fully interactive experience.

The main influence of this concept is the growth of single households in densely populated and developed urban areas. People are interested in cooking and want to develop and share their experiences and this cooking 'aiding and connecting' appliance enables creating that connection and encourages creativity.

Through its social interface platform the user can climb ranking ladders, participate in competitions or simply connect with other food lovers which makes Global Chef a 'truly social cooking experience'. It has been designed by Dawid Dawod studying MA in advanced product design, Umeå Institute of Design, Sweden.

Kitchen Hub is a device designed to help the family to eat better, healthier and reduce food waste. It has been designed by Francisco Barboza Grasa who is studying for a mechanical engineering degree and a Masters in advanced design, IED Turin.

The food stock app controls information of the ingredients you have at home and stores the individual diets of each family member to assist with food shopping. The easy-to-clean smart stand-ring can be easily used in the kitchen and all information, including recipes, is stored in a smart phone app.

Mab is an automated cleaning system consisting of hundreds of flying mini-robots that can clean all types of surfaces. Mab flying robots will scan and clean the house using paying extra attention to dirty areas.

The mini-robots clean surfaces by trapping the dirt particles to ensure maximum cleaning. Mab has been designed by Adrian Perez Zapata studying at Universidad San Buenaventura Medellín and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia.

Nutrima kitchen scales analyse your food's weight and levels of certain toxins. Nutrima helps you to eat in a healthy way and share this information with others. Nutrima has been created by Janne Palovuori who is studying industrial design at Helsinki Metropolia University of Applied Sciences Finland.

The appliance calculates the nutritional values and freshness of your food and ingredients. It is portable and is supported by an app which maps your experiences and gives nutritional tips. It can be charged by bending before use.

OZ-1 has been created by Wei Kiat Law, a Major in product design at the School of Art, Design and Media, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. OZ-1 is a portable air purifier and stress reliever integrated into a fashion piece.

While showing their fashion style, the user can choose to personalise the device with different cover designs to match their clothing. OZ-1 has a secondary function of emitting scent which can help the user to relieve stress levels and tension.

The air purifier and stress reliever all integrated in a fashion piece that you wear headphone style or hidden under your collar and ensures that your 'experience of breathing in clean air will never be the same'.
