Galaxy S10 Plus, Galaxy Buds, Xiaomi Mi 9, Sony Xperia 10 Plus, and more: Reviews round-up

It's been 10 years since Samsung launched the first Galaxy S device and this year's model continues building upon the Galaxy Foundation with innovative tech, enhanced intelligence, and an overall solid competitor to the iPhone XS Max.

Android users finally have a completely wireless solution for listening to music and podcasts that mirrors what Apple users have been bragging about for the past couple of years. Recommending the Galaxy Buds is an easy decision. They have solid battery life, get a lot of the small things right, and have respectable sound quality.

It's difficult to find serious fault with this handset. The Snapdragon 855 processor is very nippy, there's lots of on-board storage, the AMOLED screen is great, battery life is good, and the IR blaster is a nice extra. Our main gripe is the poor-quality speaker. Even so, this is probably the best mid-priced smartphone available right now.

Sony has come up with a clever idea in providing a 21:9 aspect ratio screen to deliver a fuller video experience in a smallish form factor. But there's really no reason to give a handset designed for video consumption just 64GB of internal storage, or to equip it with a single, lacklustre speaker when two much better ones would be more useful. Battery life could be better, too.

There's nothing revolutionary about HP's Elitebook x360 1040 G5, but it's a solid convertible laptop that performs well. Build quality and specification choices are generally impressive, although the 400cd/m² screen is rather dim and we'd like to see a privacy cover for the webcam. Beware, though, that high-end variants of the Elitebook x360 1040 G5 are very expensive.

Lenovo has taken the Chromebook concept and bundled it into a high-quality 15.6-inch convertible laptop with a 360-degree rotating screen hinge. The Yoga Chromebook C630 should fare better in offices where G-Suite is the standard, and Lenovo has done the Chromebook platform a favour by refusing to compromise on build quality and - internal storage excepted - on internal specifications.

Is the M8 a great tablet? No. Is it a good tablet? Yes — especially for the price. It's well made, reasonably powerful and well specified. The dual 4G modem is certainly not to be sniffed at at this price point. If what you want is a fully connected, large-screen second device you can't go wrong. It's just a shame about the loudspeaker.

The Nuu Mobile G3 may attract potential buyers because of its fancy backplate and availability in red. But if you're interested in buying a handset at around the £200 mark, do take a look at what else is on offer. We found last year's Motorola Moto G6 for £180, while the Honor 10 Lite costs £200 and has a similar light-refracting backplate. A scout around will uncover other possibilities, too.

The Oppo RX17 Pro is a solid 6.4-inch smartphone with one standout feature: its battery subsystem. If your workload mix hits your phone's battery hard, the RX17 Pro's long battery life and super-fast charging should be a big attraction. If you do choose the RX17 Pro, you'll also get good cameras, acceptable performance, a nice OLED screen and appealing build quality.

This behemoth of a phone has several optional hardware modules which attach to the S90 magnetically, so you can customise the phone and get the device you really want to use. We loved the extra modules, the flexibility they offer, and we really liked the night camera module, and the idea of a speaker module in future.

Majesti-Fi hotspot devices are very much aimed at business users and, following their launch in South Africa, are now available in the UK as well. The worldwide coverage and secure, reliable connectivity that the Majesti-Fi devices offer could prove a very worthwhile investment for frequent travellers who need to use a lot of data on the road.

The Fitbit Versa Lite provides the essentials related to 24/7 life tracking with a battery life that gets you through at least four days between charges. This means you can take a weekend adventure without worrying about charging up your Versa Lite. The Versa Lite is well made, looks great, is affordable, and is small enough to satisfy nearly everyone. It provides some basic notifications and some useful apps are available to extend your smartphone to your wrist.

The Polar Vantage V is the first wearable that integrates power without requiring an external heart rate strap or footpod, but power is not yet integrated into its training plans or even into the viewable data to any real extent. We're hoping to see Polar roll out some updates to its training plans that integrate power or at least improve the Polar Flow website to make power a more prominent data point for tracking and evaluation.

Proper tire inflation is important for safe cycling and with the Silca Viaggio pump you can make sure you are accurate to within one percent thanks to Bluetooth technology and your smartphone. The pump is a very high-quality product that folds up well and fits nicely in the included waxed-canvas tool roll. There are plenty of open slots for your other bike tools, too
