T-Mobile rolled out their second HSPA+ device with the myTouch 4G and it is a fantastic device. You can buy it in four colors and experience a solid Android 2.2 experience on a fairly compact handset.
Check out my full ZDNet article for a hands-on video and discussion of the myTouch 4G.
The myTouch 4G comes with a 5 megapixel camera and LED flash. The camera takes good photos and records 720p high definition video too.
The purple, red, and black all have soft touch finishes on the back and sides while the white is glossy plastic. The back cover can be difficult to remove for those with short fingernails.
The volume button bar and microUSB port are on the left side. You can also see three gold contacts that may be for a future docking accessory.
The 3.5mm headset jack and power button are found on the top and as you can see are surrounding with the plum soft touch material.
The only thing found on the right side is the physical camera capture button. Pressing it down half way focuses the camera too.
Here you can see the front is glossy black plastic with five physical buttons below the display. The buttons are for Home, Menu, Back, Genius, and an optical trackpad.
The Genius button replaces the default search button and is a hit or miss functionality.
Here you can see the left side hardware buttons and the optical trackpad. There is no indicator light in the trackpad that I can find.
The headset speaker is found on the top of the front with the forward facing camera next to it.
The myTouch 4G fits very well in my hand and feels great.
The retail packaging for the myTouch 4G is excellent and useful. The device and accessories are well protected too.
The back of the myTouch 4G is a wonderful mix of metal and soft touch with great curves.
Here you can see a comparison between the backs of the two myTouch 4G devices.
The left side of the packaging includes all the accessories while the middle flap houses pamphlets.
There are a few pamphlets available for you to browse some helpful info and check out some accessories.
The right side simply houses the myTouch 4G in a bed of foam.
The white myTouch 4G is on the left and the plum one is on the right. Note that the white does not extend to the face of the myTouch 4G.
The backs of these two colors show that one is glossy and the other soft touch while also both still having metal battery covers.
This close up tries to capture and show the differences in the two finishes. The red and black are also built with the soft touch finish.
The back shows the attractive metal cover and placement of the camera.
