High tech gadgets for the home of the future

The gadgets reaching the Electrolux design lab semi finalists show healthy environments for the future high tech home with smart design solutions.

The top 35 semi-finalists of the Electrolux Design Lab 2014 competition have been chosen from over 1,700 submissions from around the world. They focus on creating a healthy home with categories for air purification, culinary enjoyment and fabric care.

These concept gadgets are prime examples of what you might see in the home of the future.

They focus on connectivity, bio-mimicry, robotics, wearable tech, recycling and reusing materials, all intended to promote healthy, sustainable lifestyles at home. The concepts are intended to make our everyday lives more efficient.

Yura

Yura is your personal bartender that will mix you cocktails and drinks such as coffee, tailored to your exact requirements, cooling or heating them to your needs.

The cleaning glove will use water, nanotechnology and ultrasound to disintegrate dirt or stains from fabrics by touching them.

Air Globe

Air globe is a purifier that can simulate the atmosphere of a designated area. The globe collects humidity, temperature, smell and sound of the area and reconstructs this before releasing the purified air into the room.

The fabric assist device will quickly refresh clothing that has become slightly soiled. Clothes can be refreshed in minutes by discharging steam into fabric to clean, refresh and smooth it.

Fabric pen lets you mend and retouch your damaged fabric by printing new fabric and attaching it to the damaged area. It could also be used as a personalisation tool for clothes.

Dynamo is a fabric steriliser that will wash and clean your clothes in less than 15 minutes. It harvests its energy from kinetic energy and saves resources such as water and electricity.

Mimic will capture remembered tastes from your brain and changes the food you are eating to taste like food you really like, such as chocolate.

It will mimic the sensory smells and taste of your favourite food for you whilst you are eating something else.

Nanopack

Nanopack will reduce the amount of food that we waste by packaging food immediately to keep food fresh. It will unpack the food again so that it looks appealing to eat.

uBubble

uBubble is free floating refrigeration for food, controlled by mobile devices. Bubbles are charged by attaching to the ceiling which is charged with a magnetic field to make the bubble float.

Vibrating Jelly machine

Jelly Laundry works by using vibration to clean. When putting clothes into the machine to wash dust attaches to the jelly to clean the fabric. The vibration process removes dirt. Sound waves remove further wrinkles from the fabric.

Surphase

Surphase is a flexible cooking and cooling surface which can take on various form factors to griddle, fry and encase pans giving off heat above and below the cooking area. The surface will detect where the pot is and only heat or cool the area where the food is.
