How to download your Facebook account (official)

So you want to download everything from your Facebook account? This is the official method.

Log in to Facebook. Click on the drop-down menu in the top-right and choose Account Settings.

Click on the "Download a copy" link in the bottom left.

Read everything on this page and then click on the green "Start My Archive" button.

Click on the green "Start My Archive" button again.

If you did it right, the button will be replaced with the following message: "You will receive an email when your archive is ready for download."

When you return to the "Download Your Information" webpage, the green button will be replaced with a "Pending..." message and the following message: "We're generating your personal archive. We'll e-mail you when it's ready."

Wait till you get the e-mail to whatever e-mail address your Facebook account is registered with. Once you do, it will look something like this.

The download link will take you back to your "Account Settings" webpage. Click on the "Download a copy" link again.

If you have been logged into Facebook for longer than 20 minutes, you'll have to re-enter your password on Facebook. If this troubles you see this explanation.

Read everything on this webpage and click on the green "Download Archive" button.

Name it anything you want and choose where to save it. Depending on how large the archive is, it may take a few minutes to download.

Once it's downloaded, it will look something like this zip file.

Right click the file and choose "Extract All..."

Choose where you want to extract it to and click the "Extract" button.

Depending on how large the archive is, it may take a few seconds to extract.

The resulting folder will look something like this. Open it.

Open the folder inside too.

This is the index file. Open it to view your archive.

You're done! You now have a locally-stored version of your Facebook account, with everything you've ever posted and shared on the social network.
