iGo and Incipio hands-on: NGP for iPhone 6 Plus, car charger, 10,000 mAh battery pack

    iGo and Incipio mobile products

The massive third party accessory market is one reason the Apple iPhone is a sound purchase for the masses. Incipio and iGo sent me a few things to test with my new Apple iPhone 6 Plus .

Just about everyone I see with an iPhone in hand has the smartphone wrapped in a case. Cases can add protection, personality, or fashion to your smartphone.

Car chargers are an essential accessory, especially if you use your iPhone as a GPS navigation device in your vehicle.

While battery cases serve an important function, I personally do not like the bulk they add and prefer external battery packs that I can use to plug in various devices.

The Incipio NGP provides back and side protection

The Apple iPhone 6 Plus is a very large smartphone so if I am going to use a case then it needs to add little size or add size for serious protection. The new Incipio NGP provides some shock protection around the edges and back. By completing covering the back the case also prevents scratches when you set your iPhone down and move it around a table.

I tested the translucent frost case and there are five other color options to choose, including blue, black, neon red, teal, and neon pink. All have a translucent appearance so you can see the iPhone design features through the case.

Openings are found in the bottom

The NGP slips on easily while also remaining securely in place. The power and volume buttons are covered with raised areas to help you manipulate the buttons. There are openings on the bottom for the Lightning port, ringer switch, headset jack, and speaker. The camera and flash are also surrounded by a reinforced opening.

The Incipio NGP is available now for $19.99. I like that the case adds very little size to the iPhone 6 Plus, but does protect the edges and the back.

    iGo Car Charger

Smartphones are often used as vehicle navigation devices and to make sure that your phone doesn't run out of battery a car charger is an essential accessory. iGo has a 2.4 amp car charger that will charge up your iPhone or iPad.

The iGo car charger has a Lightning connector and comes in bright blue and white colors. I like that the color contrasts with the black interior in our vehicles as it makes it easy to find the charger and the 3 feet of tangle-free cable.

With 2.4A coming from the charger, you will be able to quickly charge up your iPhone and have no problem keeping your iPad powered up. There is an indicator light

The iGo car charger with Lightning connector is available now for $24.99.

    iGo PowerTrip 10000

As I mentioned in my opening, I prefer portable battery packs to bulky battery cases. The new iGo PowerTrip 10000 offers up a massive 10,000 mAh with 2.4A and 1A USB outlets.

You can charge up both your iPad and iPhone at the same time or use the higher capacity USB port, labeled as tablet, to more quickly charge up your new iPhone 6 Plus. iGo states that you can get up to eight extra hours of tablet time or up to six full smartphone charges.

With standard USB ports, the PowerTrip 10000 can be used with any mobile device. The retail package comes with a short USB to microUSB cable and custom rubber band that serves as a cable holder to make packing this cable along convenient.

Two USB ports and a microUSB port on one end

microUSB is used to charge the PowerTrip 10000 with such a high capacity you should use an AC outlet or else charging via a computer USB port may take all day. iGo states that a full charge can take up to nine hours.

There are four LEDs around the power button, indicating available capacity in 25 percent increments. It is dense at 230 grams with dimensions of 118 x 68 x 20mm.

You cannot charge your devices with the PowerTrip 10000 while you are charging up the battery pack itself. First fully charge up the PowerTrip 10000 before attempting to charge up your device.

The iPhone 6 Plus compared to the PowerTrip 10000

The iGo PowerTrip 10000 comes in a glossy black finish. The iGo PowerTrip 10000 has a MSRP of $99.99. With 10,000 mAh of power, this is the only battery pack you need to carry around.
