Image Gallery: A walk around the Astak EZReader Pocket PRO 5 inch
Amazon and Sony have the most popular ebook readers available today, but there are other very competitive devices available too. Astak's latest device is the EZReader Pocket PRO 5 inch unit that supports Adobe Reader Digital Edition content and much more. You can enjoy book content, music files, audio books, and more on this sleek, highly viewable eInk reader.
Here you can see the size difference between the 5 inch and 6 inch eInk displays.
The retail box is attractive and shows off the Pocket Pro.
You get a USB cable, stereo headset, A/C adapter, and manual in the box.
There are six available colors for the Pocket PRO 5 inch device.
The box clearly shows many of the supported file formats.
The EZReader Pocket PRO comes with a nice leather cover.
The eInk looks fantastic on the Pocket PRO and while not as white as the Sony 505, it is just as clear and crisp. Some may even find text to look better on the Pocket PRO than on the Sony 505.
There are ten number buttons on the bottom with a couple buttons in the shape of a circle on the right side.
You can turn pages forward and backwards using the left navigation buttons.
The thumbwheel lets you go to the next or previous page by moving it up or down. You can also access the menu by pressing in on the thumbwheel.
There is a small cutout on the upper left and right side where the case clips hold it in place.
There is a standard 3.5mm headset jack on the bottom of the EZReader Pocket PRO.
Along the bottom and bottom left you will find openings for a lanyard.
Secure Digital cards can be used to store ebooks and supports up to 16GB of memory. A miniUSB port is used to charge and transfer documents while the power button is used to lock the device or power it on and off.
The power button is flush with the top of the reader.
A unique feature found on the Pocket PRO is the user replaceable battery. A small screw keeps the battery cover in place.
The battery can be removed and you can carry extras for long trips.
The 5 inch Pocket PRO is pretty compact and fits nicely in your hand.
There are three clips on the right side that hold the Pocket Pro in place. The upper two clips fit into openings in the device while the lower one fits over a bottom ridge.
The case has a light brown tone and there does not appear to be options for different color cases.
A magnet is placed inside the securing strap that then holds the case closed.
The logo is embedded in the leather case. You can also see the high quality stitching of the case.
Menu options include the ability to zoom, rotate the display, and enable text to speech.
There are up to five zoom levels on the Pocket PRO, but they do slightly vary by the type of content loaded on the device.
When you are in the main view with the library you will see a menu that lets you organize your titles, view the SD card, or access the settings.
There are not many settings on the EZReader Pocket PRO and I did not like having key sounds enabled while I was navigating on the device.
There are eight available fonts to choose from on the Pocket PRO.
The buttons can be used to select different menu items.
Some buttons are used for other functions, such as catalog and zooming. Pressing 8 repeatedly toggles through zoom levels.
There is a button on the right to jump back/exit and to the menu.
When you have TTS enabled your menu changes just a bit to allow you to control the speech functionality.
When you are zoomed in all the way the font is quite large and clear. I suppose this would be valuable for those with bad eyesight.
I personally prefer the smaller font for seeing the most text on the display.
